Just another day for these greasers!

Pete Woodward, Merchant Liason, Diane Lehr, Sponsorship Chair, Tiffany Seibert, Kid Activities Chair, Christy Hubbard, Festival Chair, Trisha Black, SOA Director and Allison Crawford, Site Chair, at the group's recent committee meeting.

The committee chairs reported the progress of the festival on Monday.  Pete Woodward is working with merchants to bring their business into the streets during the festival and coordinating activities inside the stores.  Visitors will not only find fun activities around the square, but in the businesses with tastings, music, book signings and more!

Diane continues to make calls and visits to potential sponsors.  To date the sponsors include Advanced Concepts, Athena League, Athens Gas Department, Athens News Courier, Athens State University, Charter Communications, Dental Associates of Athens, Hand Arendall LLC, HealthSource, LouAna Oil, Ming Enterprises, Morell Engineering, and Pepsi Cola.

Tiffany is working with area organizations to create a fun, kids area.  So far children's activities include giant double slide, dunking booth, train rides, storytime and more.

Allison's committee is over the event site, placing vendors, coordinating with security, meeting electrical needs, etc.

Amanda Romine, food vendor chair, is mailing out applications!  Our food vendors are the stars of the event, and she is going to make sure we have a diverse selection of fried fare.  Her committee is also working on coordinating the tasting contest.  Food vendors and downtown restaurants can compete for "best fried vegetable," "best fried meat," "best fried dessert," and "most outrageous."  We are anxious to see what our vendors bring to the table.

This year, we are proud to showcase local talent as well as The Park Band, presented by Ming Enterprises, for an evening concert. We hope that attendees will wear their togas to the largest toga party in North Alabama!!

Stay tuned for more updates! It's gonna be a great time.

Calling all food vendors who are interested in participating in a wild and wonderful community festival in downtown Athens on September 29.This event will celebrate all foods fried and the Greek origin of Athens' name. Southerners' kitchens are like art studios where recipes are perfected and delights are born. We especially love to batter and fry our standard fare.

In addition to food, there will be an area for Southern Crafts.  Applications for both are now available on the festival's website.

Don't miss out on the prizes, the togas, the crowds, & the glory of it all!
